If Allow Messages to Unlinked Characters is enabled, others can send private messages to any of your characters that are not invisible. Messages to unlinked characters will be addressed to "Server / Character", and in these cases the sender will not be able to see your profile or account id. If this setting is disabled, messages can only be sent directly to your profile and to linked characters.
A linked character is one that has an effective privacy of "0: show all" or "2: hide level/gear", and belongs to a game account that is linked to your profile.
Friends
If Unlinked Accounts is set to share, friends will see your public profile and account pages as if you have enabled link to profile on all of your accounts. This option can be overridden on a friend-by-friend basis.
Privacy Override modifies the effective privacy of your characters, allowing your friends to see more information than ordinary users. This option can be overridden on a friend-by-friend basis.
This table summarizes the calculation of effective privacy.
